Development of Intelligent Systems for Researchers, Engineers and Scientists

Abstract: Intelligence is the science of mimicking human mental faculties in a computer. Knowledge-based systems, computational intelligence and their hybrids are collectively referred as intelligent systems which are directed towards building such a machine and improving our understanding of intelligence. Thus, ultimate achievement would be to construct a machine that can mimic or exceed human mental capabilities including understanding, imagination, recognition, creativity and emotions.

Objective of this paper is to provide knowledge, understanding of intelligence and artificial intelligence techniques. This advanced course emphasis on the development of intelligent systems, knowledge-based expert systems; rule-based intelligent system implementation and fuzzy logic based intelligent machine control system. Practical case studies such as intelligent system development on airbag deployment decision, solid waste bin and truck monitoring, dSPACE-Based inverter controller and energy management system (EMS) for hybrid electric vehicle have been demonstrated in this paper. Good understanding of the all these aspects of artificial intelligences will help the engineers to find the appropriate solution of the problems.

 Biography

HannanM A Hannan is employed by the National University of Malaysia as Professor of Intelligent Systems in the Department of Electrical, Electronics and Systems Engineering. Dr. Hannan received the B.Sc. degree in electrical and electronic engineering from Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, Bangladesh and M. Sc. and Ph. D. degrees in Electrical, Electronic and Systems Engineering from National University of Malaysia. Previously, he worked as an engineer in Bangladesh Power Development Board and Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bangladesh.    

Dr. Hannan has been published 250+ research papers in image and signal processing, inverter controller, power quality and power electronics in many reputed journals and international conference proceedings. His research interests are in intelligent signal and image processing in developing vehicle safety, hybrid vehicle and solid waste applications, intelligent embedded system, intelligent inverter controller, FACTS and custom power devices.

Dr. Hannan is the member of many professional organizations such as IEEE, IEB, IAENG, BCS etc. He has been serving as reviewer in many IEEE Transactions, Elsevier Science and some other journals as well as in the committee and reviewer of many International Conferences.

He has been awarded many times for his research and contributions, just a few such as, Gold medal in Seoul International invention Fair, 2004; Excellent Scientist for outstanding research in 2005 by MOHE, Malaysia; Champion in the National Electric Power System Competition, 2009; Runner up in the DIGI Challenge “Change for Social Venture Competitions” 2011; Runner up in Schneider Electric University Challenge “Go Green in Malaysia” 2012; Gold Medal with Outstanding Achievement in International Innovation Festival, 2014.
